This scherzo appeared in the June 1958 edition of Cominco Magazine in honour of British Columbia's centennial. Daughter of Fred Ethridge, Technical Librarian for Cominco at Trail, Jean Ethridge composed this piece at the age of fifteen.

Jean attended the University of British Columbia and studied composition with Jean Coulthard and piano with Boris Roubakine. She graduated with a B.Mus. in composition in 1967. She continued her studies in composition at the Royal College of Music in London and eventually co-wrote The Encore Series for Violin and Piano with Jean Coulthard.

Jean has composed for keyboard, chamber groups, voice, chorus and orchestra. Her works have been performed all over the world and heard on the CBC.
