Why are images and sound files on some pages and not on others? Images may be lacking as scans have not yet been made of the piece. This might be due to the fact that the music is missing or unlocatable or an archive has not yet 'approved' of the scanning. Also, scans of works and the use of sound files have not yet been granted by the copyright owner. Can I download, distribute or sell images and midi files from this web site where works are in the public domain? No. Scans of the works remain the property of the web master. Permssion to use these scans for other than private or archival use must be obtained from the web master. This applies to all scans whether the work is in the public domain or permission has been granted by the copyright owner. This also applies to MIDI and other sound files. If you didn't find any copy of the piece or didn't receive copyright clearance, why are you creating a web page for it? The web master still wanted to create a page as some information, although lacking scans and sound files, is available. It is hoped that persons looking at this site might have some insight into where this music might be found. Why won't there be some images or sound files available? Some images and sound files may not be available as permission from the copyright holder has not been granted. One can search by title, composer, subject and lyricist. Can one search other fields or the text of each entry? No. Not yet anyway. The web site was designed so that if one wanted to search titles, subjects, composers and lyricists, one would see all of the titles, subjects, composers and lyricists as part of this collection. This is in part to encourage browsing of the collection to see the extent of the material. |
