May C. Gibbs was in show business in Canada and the United States for over 38 years. She operated a motor court in Penticton where she also entertained there at the Club Shangri-La. The centennial committee for the province's 100th anniversary in 1958 considered recording her compostion The British Columbia Song.

This song was written as a tribute to the Penticton Vee's hockey team after having won the Allan Cup, 1953-54. The team was named after the famous Penticton Peaches Veteran Valiant Valvedette. The Allan Cup was donated in 1908 by Sir Montagnue Allan to the Victoria Hockey Club in Montreal and is the most prestigious senior amateur hockey award.
