Frank Gibbs was a well-known businessman in Victoria. He was born in British Columbia in 1873 and was one of the first Native Sons. He joined the firm of the Brackman-Ker Milling Co. as a clerk and was promoted later to higher positions within the company. He was also a popular member of the Pacific Club and Round-Table organization and had a keen interest in municipal and political affairs up to his death in 1932. Gibbs was also of an artistic disposition, loving music and studying literature.

The Native Sons of British Columbia,was an organization which was founded in the 1890's. It's membership consisted of native-born males over the age of 18 with good moral character.

Some of the objectives of the Native Sons were to 1) Improve the status of citizenship 2) Preserve all historical relics and records relating to the history and up-building of British Columbia 3) Assist the native born in establishing themselves and bettering their conditions 4) Encourage a greater respect for the deeds of the discoverers of B.C. 5) Encourage an appreciation for Canadian art, literature and conciousness.
