Born Oscar Melvin Frederickson in Puce Coupe near Dawson Creek, Oscar changed his name to Keray Regan after discovering kabalarian philosophy. Being called Oscar Melvin Frederickson would have meant he would lead a life with many problems and illnesses which he had since he was born.
My Home by the Fraser became an instant hit and in 1948 dislodged Bing Crosby's White Christmas from the music charts. Over 80,000 78s were sold and when re-leased as a 45 an equal number were sold. This was followed by other hits which included the Peace River Waltz.
Regan played ukulele at age four and soon learned to write songs. Coming from a musical family, he realized that he had to supplement his musical career so he held a series of day jobs as a caterpillar driver, farmer, logger and dishwasher.
Keray Regan lived in Dawson Creek until his death in 2005.
