Frank McEown was a doctor and a concerned citizen of civic improvements to the city. He was especially concerned with social housing and drug addiction.

A note attached to this song held at the City of Vancouver Archives states that "Out of 100 Vancouver songs, the song Vancouver emerges unexcelled. It portrays Captain Vancouver's discovery of Port Vancouver with all its possiblities. "It was also highly regarded for being patriotic and prophetic. A review of the recording of this song mentions "This clear-cut word picture of Vancouver with music reaches the heart, stirs the soul, lingers in the mind, has a swing to it, and is easy to sing."
